An immigrant, new to Australia, chef from background wanted to buy an existing café/restaurant and required advice in relation to purchase, structuring, taxation and setup.

Our client is an experienced head chef in big hotels. Moving to Sydney, Australia was struggling to find new connections and start from the beginning. Client approached us via social media. Client was a bit conscious in the beginning as we are based in Melbourne, Victoria. However, after speaking to a few clients locally, client was comfortable with our approach and services. Connecting via zoom calls was no different to meeting in person.

We assisted our client in the following matters:

  • Setting up the business structure while an investor from overseas was involved. Assisting the overseas investor with the paperwork in getting the loan approved by overseas bank. This structure will also help the client in saving tax in the future.
  • Guiding him on his journey of buying a business by detailed review of the potential businesses he was looking to buy and if they are worth buying and have the potential to grow in the future.
  • Guiding him along while finalising the business purchase including our thoughts on the purchase contract including any recommendations.
  • Recommendation and advice in relation to setting up the accounting software.
  • Assistance in finding an appropriate software for functioning of the café/restaurant and bar and its integration with the accounting software.
  • Recommendation with setting up employment contracts, review of pay rates according to Fair work, assistance in onboarding the employees, setting up of payroll and superannuation process.
